A legacy of strength, power and courage. Our story began on April 16, 1936 – Inspired by a small handful of educators from the Battle Creek School System, the Battle Creek Teachers Association Credit Union was born. Our original field of membership was limited to teachers, principals, supervisors and superintendents of the Battle Creek School System. At the end of the first year of operation, there were 79 members, 24 borrowers and assets of $1,861.59.

In 1958, our charter was amended to expand our field of membership to include employees of all public schools in Calhoun County, Bellevue Township and Climax Community Schools; and our name was changed to School Employees Credit Union. In 1962, the Credit Union achieved the milestone of $1 million in assets; only three years after reaching the half million-dollar mark in 1959. In 1972, we reached $5 million in assets and our new office on Riverside Drive was completed.

Through the years, our charter was amended several times to include educationally related groups in various geographical areas, as well as educational organizations and retirees. On December 1, 1999 our name was changed to United Educational Credit Union to better represent our field of membership and community charter. Many years later, on January 1, 2016, the name was again changed, to BlueOx Credit Union.

Today, we are privileged to connect with thousands of members every day, serving the state of Michigan. BlueOx Credit Union offers the credit union opportunity through exceptional hospitality and products and services that make a positive impact. Based in Battle Creek, Michigan, we have six branch locations, over 23,000 members and more than $215 million in assets.

The BlueOx name is a nod to the American Midwestern folklore tales of Paul Bunyan and Babe, the Blue Ox, and their “larger-than-life” personalities. Their character traits strongly mirror those of our Credit Union, members, local communities and the state of Michigan. Oxen are known for their hard-work, strength and perseverance. They are sure-footed and powerful. They reflect the values of strength and loyalty, also represented by the Credit Union and our membership. The BlueOx brand signifies the promise to offer strength, loyalty and superior service to our members.
